This past season we were happy to partner with Thompson Rivers University to give students an opportunity to apply their skills and acquire new experiences. Co-op stands for “cooperative education,” and it is a program that allows students to work full-time while also earning course credits. We asked our co-op students Katya and Anuj to share their thoughts on working at Monte Creek Winery this summer.

(Ekaterina) Katya Fominykh – Guest Experience/Marketing Co-op

“I am a 4th-year business student at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops. I have always been interested in winemaking  and wanted to understand how this business works. Thanks to Monte Creek Winery I was able to expand my knowledge and participate in almost every aspect of the winery’s operations: production, sales and marketing, and customer service. I think that working for a small business is very rewarding because you get involved in decision-making and learn a lot about the local community. There is also a lot of space for creativity and initiative. The Monte Creek team is amazing and this co-op term was a great experience for me overall!”

Anuj Vats – Operations Co-op

“I am doing a post-baccalaureate program in supply chain management at TRU. This co-op provided me with an opportunity to dive deeper into the field and get hands-on experience in operations: from production and maintenance to logistics. Sustainability is one of the key values of the winery, so I was able to learn how to run operations with a minimum impact on the environment. I acquired many valuable skills during my work term such as inventory planning and problem-solving. Thanks to the Monte Creek Winery team for this opportunity and continuous support!”

Thank you to Katya and Anuj for all of your help this summer. It was a pleasure working with you both. We wish you the best of luck as you continue your education!
